The Inventor’s Guild
Putting Great Into Action

🚀 Mission Statement

The Inventor’s Guild™ empowers Iowa’s inventors to transform ideas into patented products and services that uplift communities, automate grueling labor, and generate sustainable income. By offering state-funded access to intellectual property attorneys and partnering with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the Guild ensures that innovation remains accessible, protected, and profitable for everyday Iowans.

🛠️ From Vulture Capital to Venture Capital

Inventors face steep barriers to protecting their ideas. Intellectual property (IP) attorneys often charge between $15,000 and $25,000 for patent filings (SBDCNet, 2022), making legal protection unaffordable for most residents. Without proper support, ideas are vulnerable to theft and exploitation.

Historical Case Study: Nikola Tesla, despite his genius, lacked the financial and legal backing to protect his inventions. Thomas Edison, with greater access to capital and attorneys, profited from Tesla’s work — securing 25 patents based on Tesla’s contributions without compensating him (Skeptics Stack Exchange, 2018). Tesla’s radio patents were even overturned in favor of Guglielmo Marconi, until the U.S. Supreme Court posthumously restored Tesla’s credit in 1943 (The Big Smoke, 2021).

This injustice underscores the need for a public system that protects inventors from exploitation and ensures equitable access to IP services.

🤝 Strategic Partnerships

  • Iowa’s Publicly-Owned Credit Union: A percentage of royalties from successful inventions will be reinvested into the state’s credit union, strengthening Iowa’s economy and funding future innovation (Opportunity Iowa, 2025).
  • Small Business Administration (SBA): The Guild collaborates with SBA advisors and Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) to help inventors develop business plans, secure funding, and launch viable enterprises (Grants.gov, 2025).
  • Patent Attorneys: State-funded legal experts assist inventors with patent filings, copyright protections, and licensing agreements.

💡 Services Provided

  • Grant Funding: Inventors receive grants to prototype and refine their ideas.
  • Legal Support: Access to IP attorneys ensures ideas are protected from theft and misappropriation.
  • Business Development: Inventors are guided through the process of turning concepts into market-ready products.
  • CRC Collaboration: The Guild helps develop proposals for other CRC teams, ensuring that inventors receive royalties when their ideas are implemented statewide.

🌍 Long-Term Vision

The Inventor’s Guild™ will position Iowa as a global hub for humanitarian invention, joining the ranks of initiatives like the UN’s Global Innovation Hub and the Global Humanitarian Program (UNFCCC, 2025; GHP Foundation, 2025). By automating repetitive tasks historically assigned to animals, slaves, and entry-level workers, the Guild liberates future generations to pursue meaningful work.

📈 Economic Impact

  • Thousands of new jobs in engineering, manufacturing, and legal services
  • Increased patent filings and intellectual property ownership among Iowans
  • Royalties reinvested into Iowa’s credit union to fund future CRC initiatives
  • Strengthened local economies through invention-based entrepreneurship
