I have never charged for services; like the apple tree and the Earth Mother, I have always given freely. How many show gratitude to the tree by watering or pruning a branch, to make the fruit grow large and sweet; and how many just take, with nary a thought of return: the tree begins to wither, its branches drop, and the fruit, over time, becomes small, hard, and without rich flavor? Soon they talk of cutting the tree; blaming it as opposed to recognizing its pain is the symptom of neglect.

Over the years, many have been quick to ask me for help, and I have done what I can, even offering hours of insight. These same people have never thought to lift a finger or donate a dollar to show support and/or reciprocation. Like a Mom, I’ve thought, “One day they’ll get it…” 

To be an entrepreneur for an organization of such breadth and scope, is to be like the visionary in the early Sahara Desert: you can see the pyramid in your mind’s eye, and you can paint the picture for people with rich words, but very, very will help you gather sand. Just as Father Paul Matthias Dobberstein was the Shrine of the Grotto of the Redemption before it was built, gathering trinkets and shells like a madman out in the sweltering heat of Iowan summers, I have crawled like the serpent on my belly, cast down by the judgment of man,
