Why Wild Willpower Currently Uses Generative AI

WildWillpower.org may appear to be the work of a staffed organization, but nearly all of its research, writing, legal work, website construction, and visual presentation is being carried out by one person—Sondra Wilson—without compensation.

This project is being built by a transgender woman in a state that recently removed legal protections for transgender Iowans from the positive law. In addition, related color of law violations committed against transgender Iowans by current federal and state administrations have required me to pursue multiple lawsuits and document ongoing misconduct to ensure civil‑rights protections are enforced. Before I was kept off the ballot through election interference—an issue I am currently appealing—I spent years building a comprehensive platform designed to move Iowa away from the “divide and conquer” politics we have been conditioned to accept. My work aims toward a better direction for all of us: one grounded not in expanded government control, but in greater personal freedom, justice reform, and sustainable infrastructure development.

Data centers have a severe impact on our environment, limited natural resources, and the communities where they are built. I would prefer not to use AI‑generated images at all; however, Wild Willpower PAC does not currently have the finances to hire artists, and I am working tirelessly to convey crucial information that would likely be overlooked if the website contained little to no imagery.

So, while my gubernatorial platform calls for a moratorium on developing new data centers, I am also seeking to collaborate with artists across the state who believe in the causes Wild Willpower is fighting for, and who want to support the work and have their art seen.

Calling All Iowa Artists

Wild Willpower would ultimately prefer to showcase original work created by human artists—especially Iowa artists and artists who believe in the causes this organization is pursuing. AI‑generated imagery can turn some readers away before they ever engage with the substance of a page.

Artists who want this work to succeed are invited to help replace AI‑generated images with original paintings, illustrations, drawings, photography, digital compositions, or graphic designs. Proposed replacements may reinterpret an existing image or offer a different creative approach, as long as the artwork communicates the purpose of the page.

We are not looking only for attractive images; we are seeking artwork that also understands and communicates the purpose of the page.

How to Propose Artwork

Step One: Learn About the Work

Before proposing artwork, please spend time exploring the website and understanding the mission. You may wish to read:

Step Two: Select an Image or Page

Choose an AI‑generated image from anywhere throughout WildWillpower.org that you would be interested in replacing with original art. Your proposed replacement may be a painting, drawing, digital illustration, photograph, collage, mixed‑media work, or graphic design.

The replacement should perform approximately the same function as the current image. For example, a Facebook article‑preview image must remain readable at small sizes and communicate the subject quickly.

Step Three: Contact Us Before Completing the Work

Email WildWillpowerPAC@gmail.com with ARTWORK FOR SITE in the subject line.

Please include:

  • the page or image you would like to replace

  • a short explanation of your idea

  • examples of previous work, a portfolio link, or a preliminary sketch

  • the approximate time the project may require

  • your proposed price or estimated value

  • whether you are proposing paid work, donated work, or another licensing arrangement

  • a link to your website, portfolio, or store

Wild Willpower will review your proposal and let you know whether we are interested before you invest substantial unpaid time.

Step Four: Discuss an Arrangement

Artists whose proposals are accepted may discuss several possible arrangements with Wild Willpower. Before work begins, we will agree in writing on:

  • copyright ownership

  • permitted uses

  • credit

  • compensation

  • modification rights

  • any applicable campaign‑finance treatment

Because WildWillpower.org presents work associated with more than one project or committee, the appropriate recipient and legal treatment of any donated artwork will be confirmed before acceptance.

Step Five: Submit Final Artwork

After terms are approved, the artist may complete and submit the final work in the agreed dimensions and format. Wild Willpower may request reasonable revisions so the artwork fits the website and accurately reflects the message of the page. Substantial additional work will be discussed with the artist.

Wild Willpower will not publish or use submitted artwork without permission and agreed terms.

Payment, Donations, Licensing, and Credit

Proposals may involve paid work, donated work, or a separate licensing arrangement. The detailed terms will be handled privately with each artist.

Artists whose work is selected will be credited whenever reasonably possible. Credit may include:

  • the artist’s name

  • a link to their website or portfolio

  • a link to an online store

  • a brief artist biography

  • identification of the artwork as human‑created

Exposure is an additional courtesy—not a replacement for compensation. It is an additional way to recognize participating artists.

Donations designated for artwork and design will help Wild Willpower commission human‑created replacements for AI‑generated website images, subject to applicable legal requirements. Funds may be used to commission artwork, license existing work, compensate designers, and improve visual accessibility.

Our Commitment

Wild Willpower will not use submitted artwork without permission. We will discuss terms clearly, credit selected artists, and favor suitable human‑created artwork whenever a workable arrangement can be reached. Generative AI is a temporary tool used only because this project currently lacks the staff and funding to commission all of its visual materials.
