Over the years, I have found that finding legal assistance and/or media coverage can be impossible to find here in Iowa, particularly with regard to discrimination against transgender women. I cannot speak for other transgender people, but you will see in several of the following articles, that even with hard evidence, there just isn’t a safety net in place for Iowans who live at “the bottom of the human rights barrel” when it comes to injustices caused by officers or businesses.
I would like to include more articles on www.WildWillpower.org besides cases involving injustice against me. If I did not own this website, I would have gotten no media coverage for the below instances even though I contacted numerous news agencies. I have also contacted more than 50 attorneys throughout Iowa, but the cheapest quote I got wanted $5000 up front and $275/hr. – way beyond what I can afford. I’ve also contacted dozens of nonprofits and legal aid organizations, however legal aid orgs “cannot take fee-generation cases” (due to legal stipulations they are under), and nonprofits “do not want to risk their 501c3 status”.
