It’s Saturday morning. I’m sitting inside No. 6 Coffee in Boston Manor, London writing this article while having the rare privilege of being able to participate in Des Moines Area Community College’s (DMACC) London Abroad program (You can follow my London Abroad blog here). While I would much prefer to be “enjoying my time here”, unfortunately I am pressed for time in dealing with two lawsuits in Iowa due to the strict time limits of the courts, while simultaneously not having enough funding to last my stay in Europe. Here is what is going on:
In February, days before I left Iowa, I filed this lawsuit against the State of Iowa and paid the Story County Sheriffs Office $180.78 (not a small amount of money for me) to serve original notice on two organizations who share the same address, Lockwood Café and Reliable Street, in regards to the lawsuit I filed against them on December 6 last year. Defendants include:
(1) the President of Reliable Street,
(2) the Vice-President of Reliable Street, who is also the Owner of Lockwood Café,
(3) two employees of Lockwood Café, and
(4) a friend of the aforementioned parties, who portrays themselves as merely “a patron of the business” in legal filings even though they were provided a studio space by, and sold art via Reliable Street’s gallery.
