The Iowa insurance industry directly accounts for 11% of the state’s GDP. This makes Iowa the state with the highest percentage of its economy tied to insurance in the nation. Health and medical insurance specifically contributed an estimated $9.4 billion to the Iowa economy in 2022 (Iowa Workforce Development 2022).
Providing “Healthcare for All” while benefitting Iowa businesses
Many Iowans are demanding “Healthcare for All”. The fact is that healthcare is in fact a need, and the Medicaid and Medicare Act secures the right to access medically-necessary services. This “unenumerated right” is guaranteed by the Ninth Amendment of the US Constitution. So, the very serious question is: “How do we provide necessary healthcare to all Iowans without slamming Iowa businesses into the ground?”
