An Open Letter to Rob Sand’s Campaign
Dear Rob Sand for Iowa, et al:
Rob, you have done a phenomenal job as State Auditor. I commend you in his outstanding performance not only digging in to uncover injustices, but also in speaking up in times of adversity while holding a much-needed flame to Governor Reynolds’ feet. That said, his campaign is backed by the Lauridsens, who backed the very Republicans who are now harming us. As someone who has personally been harmed by the actions of several of the Republicans the Lauridsens backed, I have no doubt that any Iowan in a similar position to myself is thinking the same thing: “there is absolutely no way I will vote for Rob.” His campaign appears to firmly center around being kind to and playing very nicely with Republicans, however it is very obvious that those Republicans are clearly violating color of law crimes, racketeering, and extortion, as is shown in the suit I filed earlier this year, Wilson et al v. Trump et al. That case will be moved forward soon enough, and my amended petition will include a great deal of additional information. The fact that the Lauridsen family bankrolled the same people who are harming us, and now the fact that they are financing your “Let’s be nice to them as they hurt us” campaign, is already splitting Democrats, and we’re not even near the primaries.
I firmly believe Rob Sand is the right person for the job as State Auditor. As Governor, my administration will require his expertise, and we will depend on him to track down and ensure all the programs within my platform are operating with the fiscal oversight necessary to run a smooth operation.
Once the Watchdog Act is passed — which I named in honor of Rob’s Wake Up the Watchdog event at ISU — the leash (SF-478) that was put onto the State Auditor’s Office will be removed, and my office will tell Rob’s office to do his favorite thing in the world: find meat.”
With due respect toward Rob Sand, his campaign team, and financiers, I respectfully request that Rob Sand steps down from his bid for Governor, and instead backs my campaign. The $7 M the Laurdidsens gave to Rob’s campaign, after backing the same Republicans who are actively harming us, means to Iowa’s prospective voters that Rob is compromised. We need a united front.
Sincerely,
Sondra Wilson
Rob Sand and I have met twice in person: the first time was at Coffee with the Candidate on October 22, 2022 in Nevada, Iowa, and the second was at Rob’s Wake Up the Watchdog event at Iowa State University on February 20 this year. Although I told Rob I was running, and asked to meet with him, instead he never got back to me, and instead announced his candidacy on
October 2022 — Met Rob at “Coffee with the Candidate” in Nevada, Iowa
This was the first time we had met. After he presented, outside the venue I flagged him down to talk about a severe local injustice I was experiencing in Ames, Iowa, and how the Iowa Civil Rights Commission appeared to bend over backwards to protect businesses instead of protecting minorities against discrimination. Rob seemed unfamiliar with this type of situation, which makes sense: after all, as a white male, he has never experienced the severe and brutal discrimination that comes with being a transgender woman in this political climate. As with the 50 or so attorneys I had reached out to from across the state, Rob was unable to help.

That following year, on March 31, 2023, I announced my candidacy for Iowa Governor, and — following years of political research and grassroots organizing, have worked diligently to build a comprehensive platform ever since.
February 2024
Throughout the duration of time — since I first met Rob — I have been fighting that local case in the courts without any substantial help in doing so. In addition, due to the fact that
February 2024 — Filed Class Action Lawsuit for Transgender Iowans
I also filed a class action for civil rights in the state courts in early 2024. I did not receive a just outcome in that case, however, as Judge Huppert wrote three false pieces of information in his final ruling, then ruled according to his inaccurate assessment instead of what was actually written within the court filings. Regardless, I learned a lot throughout the experience of filing the suit, and essentially it was a precursor to the case I filed on March 31 this year, Wilson et al v. Trump et al.
Rob had not yet announced if he was running for Governor
