The Watchdog Act is named in honor of Rob Sand due to the bold and crucial work he has done as State Auditor.

The premise of The Watchdog Act is simple: to repeal what Rob has called “the most pro-corruption bill in Iowa history”, SF-478.

The Act will also mandate an amendment to the Iowa Constitution be added to ensure the role of State Auditor is safeguarded against similar corrupt acts from occurring in the future.

Author’s note: I wrote the Watchdog on 2/20/2025 after attending Rob Sand’s Wake Up the Watchdog event at Iowa State University. It was named as such in honor of Rob Sand’s outstanding work as State Auditor. It was the second time Rob and I had met, and during a break in the event I asked Rob if he was aware I was running for Governor. He was not, and I told him that I had heard he might run. I requested that he meet with me to discuss all this, but instead he never contacted me. I find it rude that instead he just decided to announce he was running. While I do think Rob has made an exceptional Auditor, the fact that his campaign was bankrolled by the Lauridsen family, who spent years financing Republicans who are currently violating us, makes me feel very strongly that he should not be Governor. As a transgender woman, who has been slandered and had Medicaid ripped away by the Republicans that Rob’s financiers put into office, there is no way I will vote for Rob. The $7 M the Lauridsens gave to Rob to bankroll his campaign could have easily paid for my surgery and the medical needs of countless other Iowans.
