This is more than a book: it is a historic document that is now part of Iowa history. After leaving Iowa on August 7, 2002, I was fortunate to have met Richard Lonewolf out in the Mojave Desert in spring 2003. Although I only stayed with his family for about 6 months, in 2010 I returned to him, determined to buckle down and learn everything I could: after all, we never know how long we will have our elders with us on this planet, so it is important to learn from them while we still have them! I am very blessed to have had the opportunity and learning experience of a lifetime studying and documenting alongside him as we wrote this book. There are more than 285 identification-friendly photos of wild plants and trees, cooking techniques, and fun, unique quotes by Lonewolf on nearly every page.
