On Monday I filed this 22 page petition to commence a civil action against the State of Iowa due to numerous discriminatory acts (rights violations, harassment, defamation) I have faced over the years from local officials, state legislature, and Governor Reynolds. Several names and addresses have been redacted for peoples’ safety. It is ironic that this lawsuit has been years in the making, and right when I filed it, news came to me that Iowa is considering a bill to remove gender identity from the Iowa Civil Rights Act. This is another example of how the State has been hellbent on violating the rights of transgender Iowans for years. Now they are trying to eliminate one of the only laws in place designed to protect us.
Although I am unable to afford an attorney, for years I have privately studied law, and organized what I learned onto www.ReUniteTheStates.org. I have also been turning the Iowa Rules of Civil Procedure into a user-friendly set of step-by-step directions: access the simplified rules here. I created these tools for my personal use in finding justice, and have made them public in order to help others. I filed this lawsuit “pro se“, or without an attorney, which is not something many people know is an option. I believe that as more people become knowledgeable in the law, that we as a society can begin:
(1) holding government officials accountable;
(2) fixing our system in the many ways it needs improved.
I hope that this lawsuit will help bring better understanding toward transgender Iowans and what we go through, so that future generations will be accepted instead of bullied or harassed. Thank you, veterans, for protecting our country and my rights. Whether people politically agree or disagree with what I am doing, I don’t believe anyone should be targeted and hurt by their own government just because they are different.
The petition is organized into four parts:
Rights violations, harassment, and threats I received from local government officials between 2006 and 2009, which caused me to remain homeless and afraid to return to Iowa until 2018.
Rights violations by Iowa’s legislature and governor; they passed a law which violated transgender Iowans’ right to obtain medically-necessary procedures (which are guaranteed under the Medicare and Medicaid Act). My appointments were cancelled as a result.
Fraudulent misrepresentation, and aiding and abetting businesses and nonprofits who perform discriminatory acts: diminution of rights against minorities. I personally experienced this (and learned how broken their process is) after filing a complaint with them in 2022. You can read more about that by reading about the lawsuit I filed against Reliable Street and Lockwood Café.
Due to many of the hardships I have faced, and studies I have performed, I’ve had many years to analyze ways in which our justice system could be improved. I hope you will read about the proposals I am making within Justice Accessibility Act.
Due to rights violations and acts of defamation Governor Reynolds has performed against me, as well as other unconstitutional and/or harmful actions she has performed during her time in office, I have decided to run for Iowa Governor in 2026. Governors should protect and help the people; period. There are many things I believe in, such as this urban gardening program, for example, which won’t be discussedunless I participate in the debates. I encourage Iowans to read my platform here, and reach out to me at [email protected]. I intend to run as a Democrat if I earn the nomination. otherwise I will run nonpartisan. Due to the many political attacks (defamation and rights violations) Republicans performed in recent years, I will not run as a Republican at this time. I believe that Abraham Lincoln would be ashamed of Republicans right now. The party was built on lifting people up and promoting civil rights, but today it seems like the party has been subverted, and instead they are kicking people down and attacking minorities. I hope the party can heal.
